The purpose of this notice is to remind you that UO employees are notauthorized to purchase insurance. In general, the UO is self-insured through the state. This means we pay an assessment on an annual basis to the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) Risk Management Division. DAS in turn uses these funds to pay for direct loss/damage or to purchase additional commercial insurance for losses not covered through the self-insurance pool.
One example of additional insurance purchased by UO departments is for coverage on exceptional items. Exceptional items are those of high market value as determined by their popularity, authenticity, rarity, or age.
